For teams and agencies on ClickUp

Parent tasks that keep up with their subtasks.

Rollwise updates a ClickUp parent task the moment its subtasks change. Status, hours and dates roll up, and a blocked subtask flags its parent. No AI guesswork and no Zapier chains: rules that run every time and never loop.

Works on every ClickUp plan. Leaves your ClickUp automation quota alone.

Why this exists

ClickUp users keep asking for it.

These are open requests on ClickUp's public feedback board. Today the answer is updating parents by hand, an AI agent that sometimes gets it wrong, or a chain of Zapier steps.

1,514votes to update the parent when its subtasks changeClickUp has said it is not currently working on it.
1,001votes to act when a task sits in a status too longComing to Rollwise as timers that count working hours.

How it works

Switch a rule on, then forget it.

  1. Connect ClickUp

Sign in with ClickUp and choose the workspace. Rollwise listens only to the lists you pick.

  2. Turn on a rule

Pick a ready-made rule for a list, such as "close the parent when every subtask is done", and the fields it should roll up.

  3. It runs on every change

Each update lands on the parent within a minute, and every change is logged with the rule that made it.

Rules

The rules ClickUp automations can't do.

ClickUp's own automations act only on the task that changed, so a parent never hears about its subtasks. Rollwise fills that gap.

Status follows the work

Any subtask started moves the parent to In progress. Every subtask closed closes the parent.

Numbers add up

The sum, minimum or maximum of a number field, such as hours, budget or story points, written into the parent.

Dates line up

The parent starts with its earliest subtask and is due with its latest, at every level of nesting.

Blocked shows on top

A blocked subtask flags its parent, so the problem is visible where people look.

Coming next: timers that count working hours and escalate, date math between fields, and keeping client folders in step with a master template.

Reliability

Built not to miss and not to loop.

Never misses a change

ClickUp drops webhook deliveries it cannot send. Rollwise checks for missed changes every few minutes and catches up.

Never loops

It knows which changes it made itself, so a parent update never sets off the rule again.

Shows its work

Every change is logged against its rule, and if something fails you see it on the task, not weeks later.

Leaves your quota alone

Rollwise works through ClickUp's public API, so your monthly automation actions stay yours.

Questions

Before you ask.

Which ClickUp plans does it work with?

All of them, Free included. Rollwise uses ClickUp's public API and webhooks, not its automations.

Will it fight with my ClickUp automations?

It recognises its own changes, and a rule that keeps flipping the same task is paused and reported on the task instead of running away.

Where is my data kept?

Rollwise runs in the EU. It keeps a short log of task changes, 7 days, to make sure none is missed. Your ClickUp token is encrypted at rest.

Is this made by ClickUp?

No. Rollwise is an independent product by Code Pencil, the makers of Pagewright, built on ClickUp's public API.

What does an action cost me?

Nothing per step. Many subtask changes in a burst become one update to the parent and count once.
